Good morning and welcome to our blog.  This weekend, Bellwood observes Memorial Day by displaying over 2,000 American, State and Service flags.  As you plan your busy weekend, we ask that you stop and reflect on the very people who have secured your freedom.  We owe a HUGH debt to our military.  Join with us to honor these true heroes!  Please have a safe and restful holiday weekend.

With Spring now upon use, many clients have asked about planting a tree at their grave-site.  Most types of oak trees work well here and can handle the hot weather.  As a service to you, our staff will be happy to plant your tree for you.  This way, we can be sure that it is placed in the proper spot.  Please contact the Park Office to schedule a planting time.

Summer is rapidly approaching Bellwood, and with the increasing temperatures, so are the number of people coming out to visit loved-ones.  We often get the question,"Why has by bronze started to turn green?  Is it ruined?"  NO everything is as it should be.  The green color is called "patina" and stems from the fact that your bronze is composed primarily of copper - hence the color.  Also, please be assured that it is NOT ruined in any way.  Bellwood's staff has the in-house capability to refinish and renew your bronze memorial and/or bronze flower vase.  If you are interested, please contact Ray Harper at (254) 778-8441.  Finally, I will be posting our second quarter newsletter "The Bellwood Bulletin" next week.  Call if you want a hard copy.

People often ask, "Why isn't Bellwood Memorial Park & Cemetery named just Bellwood Cemetery like other cemeteries in town are called?"  Well the answer is rather obvious once you actually compare us to the others.  From Bellwood's founding in 1951, our goal is to create and maintain a beautiful, peaceful "park like" atmosphere.  This is why we don't allow above ground markers and that we plant trees and shrubs throughout the park.  We are Bell County's only true perpetual care cemetery ... and a memorial park at that!  So now you know.  But, don't take my word for it.  Drop by and listen to our custom chimes, relax under our central pavilion or spend a moment of reflection in out stained-glassed memorial chapel.  All of these and more can be found right here.

Over the course of the next several weeks, Lighthaven Memorials (the company that handles all of our monuments and markers) will be rolling out a new type and size of memorial for Bellwood customers to choose from.  Stay tuned because you will hear about it here first! Also, did you remember that today is the start of daylight savings time?

QUESTIN:  What is the difference between a cemetery and a graveyard?
ANSWER:  A graveyard is always adjacent to and part of a church's "yard".
